Heard counsel for the petitioner and standing counsel. By consent of the parties the writ petition is being finally disposed of.
By this writ petition, the petitioner has prayed for a mandamus directing the District Magistrate to consider and decide the application filed by the petitioner for grant of arms licence. The application is said to be pending since 4.8.2006. No useful purpose will be served in keeping the writ petition and calling for a counter affidavit.
In the facts of the present case, ends of justice be served in disposing of the writ petition directing the District Magistrate to consider and take appropriate decision on the application for grant of fire arm licence expeditiously preferably within a period of six months from the date of production of a certified copy of this order. It is made clear that this court is not expressing any opinion on the merits of the claim of petitioner and is for the District Magistrate to consider all aspect of the matters and take appropriate decision in accordance with law.
The writ petition is disposed of with the aforesaid direction
