Bittu v. State of Punjab - CRM-29853-m-2006 [2006] RD-P&H 4273 (18 July 2006)
******
Bittu vs State of Punjab
Present : Mr.H.S.Rakhra, Advocate,
for the petitioner.
*******
The petitioner seeks grant of regular bail in case FIR No.55, dated 14.2.2006, registered under Sections 15/61/85 of the NDPS Act, at Police Station Barnala, District Sangrur.
The petitioner was arrested, while in the possession of 70 kgs of poppy husk.
Counsel for the petitioner contends that despite the fact that the quantity of narcotics recovered is commercial, the petitioner should be released on bail. It is further contended that the petitioner has been behind bars since 14.2.2006.
I have heard learned counsel for the petitioner and perused the paper book.
Admittedly, as the quantity of narcotics, allegedly recovered, is commercial, no ground to release the petitioner on bail.
The present petition is disposed of with a direction to the trial Court to make every endeavour to expedite the conclusion of the trial, keeping in mind the fact that priority is to be accorded to trials, where accused are behind bars.
