In the present writ petition the petitioners, who are on the panel lawyers on the Revenue side in the various Tehsils of district Azamgarh, are aggrieved by the meager amount of remuneration paid to them for appearing on behalf of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Earlier they have been paid Rs.5/- per case which was increased to Rs.10/- per case vide notification dated 17.11.1999.
We have heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and Sri A.N.Shukla, learned standing counsel.
The Court is of the opinion that the remuneration paid to the panel lawyers on the Revenue side is really very meager as compared to the remuneration paid to the lawyers who appear in the district court as also in the High Court which requires reconsideration.
As prayed the learned standing counsel, list on 10th January, 2006. In the meantime the Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh is directed to take appropriate decision in the matter. The decision taken by the Government of U.P. shall be placed before the Court on the date fixed. The learned standing counsel shall inform the Chief Secretary about this order in writing. Office is directed to provide a copy of this order to the learned standing counsel free of charge within 24 hours.
